Cancer Prevention

1 in 3 cancer can be prevented

New Partnership with Can4Cancer

OUTRUN CANCER comes to life in the intersection between running and cancer prevention.
We proud ourselves to be a small fish in a big pond, but a determined one!
Since 2012, OUTRUN CANCER goal has been to spread the cancer prevention message and invest in ground breaking research projects. We aimed to inspire staff across large organisation to became our champions, and live a healthier lifestyle, armed with the knowledge and tools to reduce their risk of cancer.

Can4Cancer is a CommBank Foundation community initiative in partnership with Tour de Cure that raises vital funds to support researchers working towards curing and preventing cancer

Since its inception in 2014 Can4Cancer has had over 9,000 participants which collectively have raised over $8 million for ground breaking cancer research projects and delivered the “Be Fit, Be Happy, Be Healthy” message to over 13,000 school children across Australia with CBA employees and corporate partners.

So this partnership is a match made in heaven, and we couldn’t be more excited!

It is a recognition we are getting at a turning point. More and more corporates recognise the importance of the health and wellbeing of their staff and that, when it comes to cancer, prevention is more effective than cure.

Working with Can4Cancer, and this has already shown in this first year, we can reach more organisations, more people, which can create the ripple effect we need to beat cancer.
Together we CAN achieve more.

How Chemotherapy works

Over 17 million people were diagnosed with cancer in 2018

Chemo developed from mustard gas used in WW1 is still one of the most effective ways to treat it. But it comes at a cost. This 5 min TED Talk on how chemotherapy works is worth a watch.

The first cell

Christmas can be a hard time of year for many.

Azra Raza, in her new book, The First Cell, argues that we have placed too much emphasis on treating cancer once it has already developed, and not nearly enough on catching it as soon as possible.

Lets find a way to prevent it together.

Here is Azra Raza being interviewed by Sean Carroll in his podcast. https://www.preposterousuniverse.com/podcast/2019/12/16/77-azra-raza-on-the-way-we-should-fight-cancer
